Understanding 3-Ply, 5-Ply and 7-Ply Cartons

3-ply

One fluted layer between two liners (single wall). Commonly used for lighter products, retail shipping and e-commerce.

5-ply

Two fluted layers (double wall). Commonly used for heavier products and when cartons are stacked.

7-ply

Three fluted layers (triple wall). Used for very heavy items, bulk goods and some export applications.

Important note

Ply count alone does not define strength — paper grade, GSM and flute profile matter as much. Always confirm the full board specification.
